Making Spreadsheets more Professional Looking

You may not care that much about appearances but others do.

The way you work looks says something about how much you care about it.

A messy spreadsheet sends a subliminal message to the user, "I don't care."

This is something you should consider when giving your work to the outside world.

Especially first usage. Remember that you only get one time to make a first impression.

Some ways to make you sheet more professional looking:
  • Align buttons
  • Keep the Worksheet without that much information on it
  • Be consistent
  • Don't use haphazard colors
  • Use a company logo
  • Use pictures to convey information
  • Have a legend if you're using colors for meaning
  • Ask yourself what message is this conveying
  • Use tables
  • Hide stuff that gets in the way like cells that aren't part of the spreadsheet.
